Jonathan Berube’s Warcraft Movie Poster Matte Painting

A few hours ago, VFX Art Director Jonathan Berube posted in the ArtStation a Warcraft Movie Poster Matte Painting. It shows Durotan from the back, looking toward Stormwind.

jonathan-berubeJonathan: Some movie poster work I had the chance to complete alongside Mathias Verhasselt for Blizzard’s Warcraft Movie. We had the chance to collaborate with ILM which provided some of the VFX element used in the film to aid rendering the poster.

The cathedral file, also known as Stormwind was passed along as an alembic file, which really made the massive mesh data management a breeze. It was the first time I had the chance to work with the Alembic file format and Maya’s integration with the file format is seamless. I was also surprised to see that Keyshot was also able to load Alembic files seamlessly as well.

All elements were rendered in Keyshot for quick lighting & shader work except the foreground character, “Duratang” which came from ILM.

The whole was painted on for integration purposes….
