I have been digging some SDCC 2015 info out there that evokes more questions than answers. From what I can predict from this stuff, there will be Warcraft Movie licensed toys sometime in 2016. That feels more prediction than speculation. It’s coming.

On the speculation spectrum, and this is in no way a fact … (yet), my crystal ball shows me an Overwatch TV animated series to flesh out the characters broadly to kids, teens and adults. This isn’t something my crystal ball hasn’t seen before. It’s an outloud vibe that’s been hinted in many ways the past couple of years. I have posted about this before from quotes said by Chris Metzen during BlizzCon 2014, the curious visits of PIXAR to Blizzard’s campus and viceversa, and the curious Senior Writer job opening with a peculiar requirement: “Mentor the story team in television and animation writing.”
Now, sometimes I have deviced long stretches, but I have been right in past speculation/predictions too. Why did this SDCC panel in particular caught my eye? Andrew Robinson. I like to dig around. It seems Andrew was the Senior Writer hired by Blizzard for that job opening. He joined on December 2014. Take a look as his past work:
“I have written for numerous animated series, from DRAGON TALES and BABY LOONEY TOONS, to MEGAS XLR; ACTION MAN; MAX STEELE; STARSHIP TROOPERS; W.I.T.C.H.; JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES; DUEL MASTERS; MP4ORCE; THE SECRET SATURDAYS; IRON MAN: ARMORED ADVENTURES; TRANSFORMERS: ANIMATED; THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN; WALKER, TEXAS RANGER (not animated, but THIS close) AVENGERS: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES; GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES; YOUNG JUSTICE; THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!; ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN; TRANSFORMERS: RESCUE BOTS; KAIJUDO: RISE OF THE DUEL MASTERS; and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Previous career incarnations include Development Executive in both the feature and television industries, and talent management for actors.”
That seems like the right man to hire to bring Overwatch to TV as an animated series; and he is a panelist in this particular SDCC panel. Bogus or Hype?

Warcraft Chronicles is actually coming from a different publisher: Dark Horse. Might we ever see a new Warcraft comics rise from Dark Horse? We already know Chronicles exist. Maybe they have more news to unveil?
From Console to Comics: The Art of Video Games
Your favorite video games have expanded beyond your screen and into comics. Dark Horse editor Dave Marshall and panelists Nick Thornborrow (BioWare’s Dragon Age), Paul Tobin (The Witcher, Plants vs. Zombies), Christofer Emgård (DICE’s Mirror’s Edge), and others discuss bringing some of gaming’s most popular titles, including World of Warcraft, Halo, and more, to comics and art books.

There is a lot of thunder in the distance, people of the comics, Toy and TV animation industry coming to SDCC with exciting news to reveal. More interesting is Blizzard developers sitting next to those guys in the same room at the same time. Could my crystal ball stray too far away from the truth? Maybe. Maybe not. Only a week to find out.
