The Topps Warcraft Cards are no more. Last year, we reported details from the SDCC 2015 showfloor about upcoming licensed products. Among the licensees was TOPPS, which planned to launch a card collection based on the Warcraft Movie.
It is now official that TOPPS has cancelled development. They did no offer any details concerning the cancellation. It is not unusual, however, for companies to announce a licensed product, then cancel it when licensing doesn’t get ironed out in time. I have seen that happen before with Panache and Unimax. Years ago, when I attended the Toy Fair as press, they were handing out flyers about an upcoming toys based on StarCraft for their Gamestars toy line. The license couldn’t be secured. Unimax later closed doors.
Originally, TOPPS planned to launch the TOPPS Warcraft Movie Cards collection on May 11, 2016. Looking up the search engine, the cancellation update took place on September 29, 2016.
Below is the original announcement text and images provided by TOPPS on December 26, 2015.

CORRECTION: Originally, I reported all these products were from the WETA booth. I was informed of my mistake. There are four companies involved in the production of these Warcraft Movie Collectibles: WETA, Gentle Giant Ltd, Jakks Pacific, and Maybang’s Collectibles.
The following statues are produced by Gentle Giant Ltd: Gul’dan, Durotan, Orgrim and Lothar. The Gul’dan Skull Scale Replica 3D Print too. Pre-order them here.
WETA brought some of the armor and weapon sets used in the Warcraft Movie to New York Comic Con. In addition, the WETA Warcraft Movie 1:6 scale armor replicas to be sold in 2016 were displayed too.
Currently, WETA has announced the King Llane Armour and Alliance Soldier 1:6 scale armor replicas; and there was a NYCC Show Special sale of two collectable pins: Warcraft Horde and Alliance for $10 each.
Weapons & Armour
Working with designs supplied by LEGENDARY, WETA Workshop’s manufacturing team created working physical props and costumes. It was great fun to take weapons and armour out of the gaming realm and make them real!
84 full suits of gleaming armour were produced for the film’s royal guards and foot soldiers, along with hundreds of weapons and shields.
Hero suits and weapons were crafted for featured characters including King Llane Wrynn I.
Blades were made in both hero steel and lightweight materials. WETA’s paint team worked their magic, bringing real-world treatments and finishes to armour and weapons produced in lightweight materials so that real human actors could look awesome wielding huge weapons and wearing giant suits of gleaming armour!
Pre-orders for the Warcraft: Durotan The Official Warcraft Movie Prequel are now available. No front cover at the moment.
Insight Editions is developing a new book that offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the Legendary Pictures’ Warcraft film. Warcraft: Behind the Dark Portal is slated to ship on May 24, 2016 and pre-orders are now available.

This is hopefully going to spark life into the hearts of millions of fans awaiting the Warcraft film, and seriously choke the trolls and naysayers that called it vaporware.
Following Duncan Jones’ visit to the Blizzard Entertainment Irvine Headquarters a few days ago to talk with Blizzard VP of Creative and Franchise Development Chris Metzen — Duncan Jones posted today two tweets one right after the other.
One Tweet said “Producer Liberty Stu put this on my table while I was writing the other day. Not sure if it was a gift or a threat!”
Curious about the picture link, I checked it out. It was a freaking “Epic Weapons Warcraft Doomhammer Replica”!!! Liberty Stu placed it on Duncan Jones’ table. Now you would ask — who in the world is Liberty Stu? Well … he’s Stuart Fenegan — the Executive Producer of the WARCRAFT film (Producer of MOON, Co-Producer of SOURCE CODE).
The second tweet said: “Writing today! I can’t wait! 🙂”
Curious, as I always am, I candidly sent a tweet to Duncan Jones to ask if the Doomhammer and his “writing today” comment meant that he was actually writing some scenes for the Warcraft film based on the script — considering he visited Chris Metzen recently.
Duncan Jones responded: “Absolutely!”
There you go guys … the Warcraft film is full-speed ahead.
The big question is if Blizzard is going to make any big reveals about the Warcraft film at BlizzCon 2013 (November 8-9th). Or much much earlier? We want teasers. We want to hear when the role cast begins. We want to see photos of actors in scenes. We want viral teasers. OH YEAH! We want geeks teasing geeks. <3
I posted over at Worldofwar.net an interesting speculation article that might be of interest to WoW fans. The internet is abuzz with the delay of Spider-man 4’s production. I speculate Sam Raimi might decide to commence work on the Warcraft film while the Spider-man 4 script woes are resolved.
The Deadline Hollywood news site reports Sam Raimi is not happy with the Spider-man 4 script and the villains line-up. This potentially causes a major delay and postponement of its filming production — meant to have taken place in a few weeks. Thus the Spider-man 4 film won’t be ready for its May 5, 2011 release date.
A script started from scratch could take a year or more, not even considering if it is again rejected then and needs to be taken back to the drawing board till it is right and liked by the director. Could this be a good sign for the Warcraft film to take priority over Spider-man 4? Read my full article here.
