2016 Topps Warcraft Cards Cancelled

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Warcraft Movie, World of Warcraft Film

The Topps Warcraft Cards are no more. Last year, we reported details from the SDCC 2015 showfloor about upcoming licensed products. Among the licensees was TOPPS, which planned to launch a card collection based on the Warcraft Movie.

Topps Warcraft Cards

It is now official that TOPPS has cancelled development. They did no offer any details concerning the cancellation. It is not unusual, however, for companies to announce a licensed product, then cancel it when licensing doesn’t get ironed out in time. I have seen that happen before with Panache and Unimax. Years ago, when I attended the Toy Fair as press, they were handing out flyers about an upcoming toys based on StarCraft for their Gamestars toy line. The license couldn’t be secured. Unimax later closed doors.

Originally, TOPPS planned to launch the TOPPS Warcraft Movie Cards collection on May 11, 2016. Looking up the search engine, the cancellation update took place on September 29, 2016.

Below is the original announcement text and images provided by TOPPS on December 26, 2015.

Warcraft Movie TV Spot 1

Legendary released on Sunday a new Warcraft Movie TV Spot featuring some of the scenes we had already seen plus a new sequence showing Garona in battle against an orc — and if you look closer in the image below, she is wearing armor with the Stormwind lion crest. We get a good glimpse of Dalaran, and a few ramdom scenes never seen before.

The Warcraft Movie is coming to a theater near you on June 10, 2016. We are 4 months-2 weeks-and some change away from watching the movie. Only 137 days. Where’s the Hype?! Yay! Follow @Legendary and Duncan Jones @ManMoonMade.

NYCC 2015 – WETA Warcraft Movie Armor Props

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Warcraft Movie, World of Warcraft Film

WETA brought some of the armor and weapon sets used in the Warcraft Movie to New York Comic Con. In addition, the WETA Warcraft Movie 1:6 scale armor replicas to be sold in 2016 were displayed too.

Currently, WETA has announced the King Llane Armour and Alliance Soldier 1:6 scale armor replicas; and there was a NYCC Show Special sale of two collectable pins: Warcraft Horde and Alliance for $10 each.

Weapons & Armour

Working with designs supplied by LEGENDARY, WETA Workshop’s manufacturing team created working physical props and costumes. It was great fun to take weapons and armour out of the gaming realm and make them real!

84 full suits of gleaming armour were produced for the film’s royal guards and foot soldiers, along with hundreds of weapons and shields.

Hero suits and weapons were crafted for featured characters including King Llane Wrynn I.

Blades were made in both hero steel and lightweight materials. WETA’s paint team worked their magic, bringing real-world treatments and finishes to armour and weapons produced in lightweight materials so that real human actors could look awesome wielding huge weapons and wearing giant suits of gleaming armour!

SDCC 2015 – Warcraft Movie Panel

Sadly, the person I assigned to go to the “SDCC 2015 – Warcraft Movie Panel” spent two hours in line before everyone was told there was no more room. My heart deflated. I have heard Duncan Jones fed and handed away lots of twinkies to late-campers who waited in line since last night. So I can understand the line was pretty huge as the panel schedule approached.

BlizzCon 2014 Warcraft Movie Trailer Impressions by Yanmo Zhang

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in BlizzCon 2014, Warcraft Movie, World of Warcraft Film

Director Duncan Jones and Legendary Pictures welcomed fans to the Warcraft Movie museum where they displayed armor, weapons and props used during the filming. In addition, fans were able to watch an exclusive Warcraft Movie trailer with actors in action and landscape visuals. Bad news is no one will ever watch the Warcraft Movie trailer online.

Our staff member DPerschonok (Naka) watched it, and no one was allowed to take photos nor video. Good thing there is nothing stopping artists from recreating it.

Yanmo Zhang — a Blizzard Entertainment freelance artist from China — was invited to BlizzCon 2014 by the video games studio. After drooling over the Warcraft Movie trailer (and watching it three times no less), he decided to use his talent to recreate some of the scenes he watched to share them with fans across the world.

Duncan Jones’ Face Looking at Naked Orcs in Warcraft Movie

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Warcraft Movie, World of Warcraft Film, World of Warcraft News

Duncan Jones tweeted this humorous photo of a trio of geniuses looking at some visual effect photos of a naked orc.

Now if at least he could have shared a censored photo of what they were looking at. =/

You tease…

Paul Hirsch, Bill Westenhoffer & I looking at new vfx shots from @ILMVFX. So THATS what orcs look like naked…

Warcraft Movie Preview Expected at BlizzCon 2014

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in BlizzCon 2014, Warcraft Movie, World of Warcraft Film

A year ago, when asked during the Warcraft Movie panel Q&A when there would be a preview, Duncan Jones answered “next year’s BlizzCon panel is going to have a hell of a lot of interesting things to show.”

The BlizzCon 2014 schedule shows the Warcraft Movie Presentation panel will happen on Friday, November 7th between 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM PST. It is very likely a movie preview is shown. Those who won’t attend BlizzCon may still purchase the virtual ticket to watch online.

If you missed the movie presentation panel last year, we have a full transcript.
