The Prince Charles Cinema: Duncan Jones Q&A Video

The Prince Charles Cinema (London) played the WARCRAFT: THE BEGINNING film screening celebrating a year since it was viewed in cinemas. At the end, Mark Kermode interviewed Duncan Jones onstage, and later the audience was able to ask questions. The event took place on June 19, 2017 at 8:45pm (London time).

Duncan Jones said the movie was produced as the first chapter of a trilogy. However, the decision to film a sequel solely depends on Legendary Pictures, Universal Studios and Blizzard Entertainment.

Basically, the sequel would cover Christie Golden’s WARCRAFT: LORD OF THE CLANS, and the third part of the Warcraft film trilogy covers Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos — with Thrall leading the Horde to Kalimdor (a new homeland). Jump to 14:00 in the video for the quote shown below.

If you were to make a sequel, where would you take the story next?

Duncan: This first film was about establishing the world, and showing Durotan helping his son escape a dying planet. So to me, the ideal over the course of three films is for Thrall to fulfill that vision of Durotan, to create a new homeland for the orcs. So in the second film, it would be the adolescent years of that baby, and anyone who does know the Warcraft story know there is very much a kind of a Spartacus story that goes on with that character; and I would basically follow that through, and the human-side of it which is a little less clear as far as how that would follow; but basically there is an aftermath to this film which would need to be completed on the human-side, and on the orc-side it would be very much following that baby (Go’el), who is known as Thrall in the universe, and how he eventually creates the orc homeland.

My fascination with trying to do Warcraft in three films, and the idea of family is, I love the idea of Durotan has sacrificed himself so his son and the people he cares about can survive. I want to see that sacrifice pay off. That’s the trilogy. That’s the heart of the story.

A fan (Darren Fewins) uploaded the Q&A event to YouTube. The video was recorded in low-quality (possibly a smartphone or tablet), so don’t bother zooming in.

Note: If the video is deleted, message me on twitter at @blizzplanetcom. I will get another seed. If you have not watched the WARCRAFT movie yet, you can watch it on your PC or tablet as an HD digital stream HERE for $12.99.

There aren't many late-night director Q&A's I'd show up for on a Monday night, but @manmademoon always gives great A
